Local SdCNHA Field Trip Grants encourage school field trips which foster the study of land and water, local history, local heritage, local culture, archaeology, an understanding of place, and the shared natural and human resources of our heritage area.
WHAT WE FUND
We encourage field trips which foster:
- the study of land and water
- local history, local heritage, local culture,
- archaeology,
- an understanding of place, and the natural and human resources that we use and conserve.
We do not fund recreational and athletic field trips, even if they occur at one of the listed locations.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
All K-12 schools that are located in the three counties of our heritage area including Alamosa, Conejos, and Costilla Counties qualify to submit an application to the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area. One application per school, per grade level, per year will be accepted, regardless of the destination or purpose of the field trip. The board of directors for the Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Area will make final award decisions based on completeness of the application, curriculum connection, and available funds.
AWARD
The grant will be awarded based on quotes provided. Funding will occur after the fieldtrip as reimbursement. To receive payment, please complete and submit the online close out form with receipts and photos. This information must be submitted within 14 days of taking your trip.
ALLOWABLE EXPENSES
- Grants will pay for reasonable student and sponsors admission costs;
- Supplemental learning materials;
- Bus transportation via district or school buses, or via private bus companies;
- Grant cannot pay for private automobile costs or food;
- Reasonable substitute teacher and/or field excursion assistant costs may be considered for funding.

If your field trip is to a pre-approved destination (see checkbox list below), you will select that destination on the application. If your field trip destination is not on the pre-approved list, you will be asked to provide additional information about the educational value of the field trip.
